Ventura’s Project 805, released last fall, is purportedly the first cigar to feature Andullo (pronounced ahn-DU-yo), an exotic tobacco favored by the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean islands. According to the 805 press release, “Tobacco leaf from the Rabito and Quin Diaz tobacco plants is harvested and piled into a series of palm seed pods called yagua. When filled, the palm seed pods are wrapped in a thick natural rope, compressing the Andullo into a dense, rigid bar. Stacked in a barn and rotated at regular intervals, the Andullo ferments in the yagua for up to 2 years.” The addition of aged Andullo to the flavorful Dominican blends makes for an extremely tasty cigar; an earthy, robust smoke ideal for the end of a long day. If you haven’t tried one of these yet, now’s your chance!
